Operation Log
How the Poseidon Crisis Began | Poseidon Crisis Ep. 1
The opening episode traces the discovery of the Poseidon Reserve, the collapse of stability on Altis, and the first signs of the crisis to come.
Episode Brief
Episode 1 establishes the strategic and political background behind the Poseidon Crisis. It starts with the 2024 discovery of the Poseidon Reserve, follows the worsening economic and civil breakdown inside the Republic of Altis and Stratis, and frames the rise of the Altian Opposition Networks as the first signal that unrest is becoming organized conflict.
The episode also introduces the broader regional stakes. As Greece and Turkey compete for influence around Altis, outside pressure intensifies at the same time domestic legitimacy weakens. By the end of the briefing, the island has not yet fallen into open war, but the line between instability and conflict is about to break.
Transcript Highlights
In June 2024, the Republic of Altis and Stratis announces a major offshore natural gas discovery later designated the Poseidon Reserve. Estimated at more than 30 trillion cubic feet, the find immediately transforms the island’s strategic importance across the eastern Mediterranean.
The expected recovery never arrives. Delays, internal disputes, inflation, and collapsing public services deepen public frustration, and protests spread across the island through late 2024. As the civilian government loses credibility, decentralized anti-government groups emerge and begin operating as the Altian Opposition Networks.
At the same time, Greece and Turkey both move to increase their influence over the Republic. Greece appears to gain ground through closer cooperation with Altian leadership, while Turkey presents itself as a stabilizing force and points to unrest, economic breakdown, and the risk of civil conflict as justification for a stronger posture.
By early 2025, some opposition cells are no longer acting like isolated protest groups. Coordination improves, access to weapons expands, and intelligence reporting starts to connect these changes to a single codename: The Turk.
The episode closes by making clear that Altis is no longer dealing with isolated unrest. Economic collapse, more capable insurgent networks, and mounting external pressure are converging into the opening phase of the Poseidon Crisis.
